The Kensington Sierra Madre & World Central Kitchen Bake for Ukraine

Kensington Senior Living communities are joining with World Central Kitchen to support Ukraine following Russia’s invasion.

We are working as one family to fundraise for World Central Kitchen, a nonprofit working the front lines to nourish hungry Ukrainians.

In return, our Kensington chefs are baking for the cause to provide a batch of Ukrainian Honey Cookies to all who donate.

Read on to learn more about World Central Kitchen, their brave work in Ukraine, and how a donation to Kensington Bakes for Ukraine directly supports these efforts.

Why is The Kensington Sierra Madre partnering with World Central Kitchen?

The Kensington Sierra Madre Promise is to love and care for your family as we do our own. This promise extends into all aspects of our care, including the ways we work to support our community of families and caregivers.

The Kensington team understands the importance of nourishing, healthy meals and their effect on our minds, bodies, and general wellness. We nourish our residents and families with love and the highest quality foods.

That’s why we have partnered with World Central Kitchen to support their on-the-ground efforts to nourish Ukrainians in need.

How does The Kensington Sierra Madre support the community?

The Kensington Sierra Madre frequently partners with organizations and nonprofits that share our dedication to supporting and educating our community.

We recently hosted CareCon with Hilarity for Charity, an event to empower caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia

Our community hosts educational events to provide resources to caregivers and support the health and wellness of those with progressive illnesses such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.

We now are encouraging the community to join our Kensington chefs in support of those affected by the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Who is World Central Kitchen and what is their mission?

World Central Kitchen was founded by Chef Jose Andres, after rushing to Haiti to serve hot meals following a devastating earthquake in 2010.

World Central Kitchen is built on the belief that food during disaster is a “plate of hope,” with the power to rebuild a sense of community following tragedy.

Kensington Senior Living communities deeply understand and relate to this mission of serving and caring for others in their time of need.

How does World Central Kitchen help communities rebuild?

The World Central Kitchen team recognized through years of service that these communities need more than food relief.

Following an emergency food relief response, the team makes long-term commitments to support communities with their food challenges.

Much like the World Central Kitchen team, The Kensington is focused on improving quality of life and the preventative measures we can take to build long-term health and wellness.

How will the fundraiser support those in Ukraine?

A donation to Kensington Bakes for Ukraine directly supports World Central Kitchen’s emergency food relief efforts and resilience programs.

Kensington Senior Living collected donations throughout April, and exceeded the fundraiser goal of $15,000.

How far does my donation go?

World Central Kitchen has provided more than 70 million meals around the globe, and currently nears 300,000 daily meals for Ukrainians following the invasion.

The team now is serving around-the-clock meals at eight border crossings across the country, sending food to local restaurants, and serving thousands of meals per day in Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, and Spain.

Donation directly contributed to these efforts to nourish those in their time of need.

Kensington Senior Living, your partners in care, and partners for community and global support

The Kensington Sierra Madre frequently partners with renowned organizations to educate and support our residents and their families, especially with promoting caregiver support, brain health, and lifestyle changes to support healthy habits.

We are an assisted living and memory care community that offers a full spectrum of care to residents — from light assistance to the highest levels of support.

True ‘aging in place’ for residents in our communities

By providing a full spectrum of support, our loving community is able to offer true “aging in place,” where residents are welcome no matter how their care needs change over time.

This is especially important for our residents with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia who require enhanced memory care, or any resident who struggles with a progressive illness.

We offer a wide range of on-site services, including:
