Gnothi Seauton. Know Thyself. These words were inscribed above the entrance to the temple of Apollo at Delphi, site of the sacred oracle. In ancient Greece, people would visit the oracle hoping to find out what destiny had in store for them or what course of action to take in a particular situation.
With the New Year, we have the opportunity to reinvent ourselves, set new goals or just become familiar with who we are.
“Knowing yourself has nothing to do with whatever ideas are floating in your mind. Knowing yourself is to be rooted in Being, instead of lost in your mind.” – Eckhart Tolle
I came upon the following in the book A New Earth. I thought it would be great to focus on as a New Year’s resolution.
Try this for a couple of weeks and see how it changes your reality: Whatever you think people are withholding from you – praise, appreciation, assistance, loving care and so on – give it to them. You don’t have it? Just act as if you had it and it will come. You cannot receive what you don’t give. Outflow determines inflow.”
I also read an interesting article from Pocket Mindfulness about New Year’s Resolutions which basically said to give them up. Instead, “enter the new year in a mode of being absolutely present and absolutely positive about how great it’s going to be. If you do this and endeavor to maintain this approach, you will end up doing everything you are supposed to.” I wholeheartedly agree!
“If you want 2020 to be your year; Don’t sit on the couch and wait for it. Go out. Make a change. Smile more. Be excited. Do new things. Throw away what you’ve been cluttering. Unfollow negative people on social media. Go to bed early. Wake up early. Be fierce. Don’t gossip. Show more gratitude. Do things that challenge you. Be Brave. – Power of Positivity.
