“May we think of freedom not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right”

-Peter Marshall

Dear Family and Friends of the Kensington,

The Stars and Stripes will be flying high in July, and we hope that our residents will find plenty of reasons to celebrate. We live in the greatest country in the world, where freedom rings every day. Our country is truly the land of the free and the home of the brave. This Fourth of July, between the picnics and fireworks displays, take time to celebrate the freedoms that were given to us by some of our very own residents here at the Kensington.

Our Connections neighborhood has grown so fast in the last month it is hard to believe that only six months ago we were moving in our first residents. Thank you for all your patience and support as we grow. We are so happy that you have chosen to be part of our family. As we grow, several of our families have requested a family support group. This group would be for family members of a loved one living in our Connections or Haven Neighborhoods. Our plan is to have our first meeting on Wednesday July 15th. Please join us for dinner in our connections dining room at 5:00 p.m. followed by a family and friends meeting in our game room that is just outside our neighborhoods. This group will be a time for you to get to know the other families of residents here at the Kensington. It will be directed by a Vitas chaplain that will help us all guild through this journey. All are welcome!

Coming up in July we will be celebrating the 4th of July by watching the parade! All of our Connections residents are invited to come downstairs to watch the parade. Afterward we will be having a delicious barbecue in the Assisted Living Neighborhood at 12:00 p.m. Family and friends are all welcome! Please be sure to R.S.V.P. if you plan on join us for any of our events. There is no charge for any of our family events but having an account of who will be attending will help us prepare adequately and provide accommodation for all of our guests.

We will also be hosting a family picnic on Saturday July 28th. We will be having games, hot dogs, and even a special performance from each of our neighborhoods. The event will take place at Sierra Madre Park and we hope that all of our residents, families, and friends will all come for some great family fun! There will be sack races, live music, and great food so don’t miss out.

July is forecasted to be a very hot month this year. We all need to be careful to bring water, sunblock, and hats each time we leave on an outing, doctor’s appointment, or even just a walk around the block. We are happy to provide small water bottles available in the bistro near the concierge desk. Please feel free to keep your loved one hydrated!

As a reminder please remember that if you wish to join us for breakfast, lunch or dinner we would love to have you at no additional cost. We encourage you at the Kensington to be part of your loved ones dining as you are as much a part of our family as the residents are. Please remember that the Connections Neighborhood eats on a regular schedule.

  • Breakfast: 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
  • Lunch: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Dinner 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

Adhering to this schedule is extremely important to the routine of our residents. We would also ask that you let the front desk know if you plan on dining with or Connections Neighborhood. This helps us keep our food pantry up to date and assures that we have enough nourishment for all of our residents, families, and friends!

We are looking forward to having a wonderful July with all of you! Thank you for all your love and support. Thank you for trusting us with your loved one. It is an honor to serve and be a part of your family!

With Love,

The Kensington Connections Team
