Gnothi Seauton. Know Thyself.

Gnothi Seauton. Know Thyself.

These words were inscribed above the entrance to the temple of Apollo at Delphi, site of the sacred oracle. In ancient Greece, people would visit the oracle hoping to find out what destiny had in store for them or what course of action to take in a particular situation.

With the new year, we have the opportunity to reinvent ourselves, set new goals or just become familiar with who we are. It is a great time to focus on the wonderful people in our lives and on all that is going well. And to give thought to how we can make a positive difference in someone else’s life as well as our own.

“Knowing yourself has nothing to do with whatever ideas are floating in your mind. Knowing yourself is to be rooted in Being, instead of lost in your mind.” –Eckhart Tolle

I have been doing my usual reading and came upon the following in the book A New Earth. I thought it would be great to focus on as a New Year’s resolution.

“Try this for a couple of weeks and see how it changes your reality: Whatever you think people are withholding from you – praise, appreciation, assistance, loving care and so on – give it to them. You don’t have it? Just act as if you had it and it will come. You cannot receive what you don’t give. Outflow determines inflow.”

We have much to be grateful for and appreciate. We survived another year! And have much to look forward to. I hope this year is a happy and healthy one for all!

As my 4 year old often says, be “loves, hugs and kisses for everyone”. Sometimes great wisdom comes from unexpected messengers.

Happy New Year!
